Something about Finland

I post some pictures about a trip to Pirttisaari (an island in the Porvoo’s archipelago) we did today. Once again, I hope these pictures can give the idea about the relaxing place that Finland is.

The Migration

I just post some pics about the birds’ migration that every year just before autumn happens in Finland. More precisely the pics are from Helsinki, Viikki. They are not that interesting for birdwatchers but they give an idea about the huge amount of birds gathering together before starting the migration.

Neve-Snow-Neve-Snow

Ancora tanta neve qui ad Helsinki, in particolare in Viikki dove io lavoro. Esporre le foto correttamente non è semplice, il bianco della neve inganna l’esposimetro che tende a sottoesporre. La soluzione più semplice è scattare leggermente in sovraesposizione ossia +2/3 o +1 stop. Inoltre nelle foto ci sono forti dominanti azzurre. In questo caso l’intervento con un programma di fotoritocco è d’obbligo. Io solitamente lavoro sul canale del blu (RGB) abbassando la sua curva tonale. In ogni caso non sono mai sicuro del risultato finale…sono lievemente daltonico…

Cold and Snow

Few pictures about the snow in Helsinki. It was quite cold, around -13°C  but the camera (Canon 50D) can work quite well even at that temperature. It’s not really bright at this time of the year in Helsinki and everything is grey, the colors seem to be washed away, but still I think it’s possible to have good opportunities to take good shots!

There is lots of snow in the field (lots of reflective white material) so a good setting could be to over expose 2/3 stop or even 1 full stop since the camera exposimeter will always try to under expose the scene. This could help to have balanced pictures.

Snow

Winter is a magic season in Finland. The snow makes the days brighter despite the very short length of the day. I took some pictures just to give the idea about the incredible amount of snow we had recently.

Kemiö

I spent a lovely weekend in Kemiö, surrounded by the stunning Finnish nature, breathtaking landscapes, bright leaves colors that are changing right now at the beginning of the Autumn. The nature follows its way, it takes a deep breath before falling asleep in the upcoming winter season…it seems the nature itself is waving its hands as if it was saying: ”Hey, see you next year, I will be here…just like always…”

United Buddy Bears in Helsinki

I was walking through the Helsinki city center on Sunday morning when I reached the Senate square and I was really surprised to find such a pretty exhibition!  “United Buddy Bears” is the name for that original event. This exhibition has been running around the world since 2002 starting from Berlin and going through Korea, Japan and other far countries. 142 Buddy Bears, 2m tall, represent as many countries recognized by the UN! “We have to get to know each other better, it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more, and live together more peacefully”…I fully agree with this latter statement!

Sunset…

I do know…sunset pictures have been seen at least 99999999X10^9 times but still they always look nice. So I don’t want to be different from the other (99999999X10^9)-1 people that like to take these kind of pictures. They have been taken from my window.
